Air Force football visited the White House Tuesday because it won the coveted Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy in the rivalry with Army and Navy. If you missed reading or seeing video from your usual sports media outlets, you’re not alone.

The ceremony with the president rarely, if ever, receives attention on a level of the Super Bowl and World Series champions. It’s another one of those puzzling examples of how we celebrate fame over substance in America. ...
