One Notre Dame spring game optic that went largely overlooked was backup quarterback Ian Book’s media availability. He answered questions for nearly 10 minutes in a room reserved for coaches and stars perched upon thrones.

Backup quarterbacks are to be seen, not heard. And that seems especially true this season at Notre Dame. The Irish want Brandon Wimbush, their untested redshirt sophomore designated as their starting QB, playing confidently without looking over his shoulder. ...
