Sun will have to rise elsewhere for Gottfried

NC State program lacked leadership and glue from early departures

The dismal end for North Carolina State coach Mark Gottfried was a lethargic 75-61 loss to Clemson on Tuesday in the ACC Tournament’s first round. The fired coach walked off the court in Brooklyn with players guilty of lacking fire.

How could it end this way for a coach with a six-year run that included four NCAA trips and two Sweet 16 berths? Recall the dialogue between two characters from Ernest Hemingway’s 1926 novel, The Sun Also Rises
