The ACC/Big Ten Challenge is a made-for-TV event, but the 19th annual basketball conference rivalry is a nod to history that deserves a fist bump. Notre Dame and Michigan State revive neglected tradition when the schools meet in a date to be announced.

For decades, the Irish and Spartans played a series that was among the longest running at the Midwestern campuses located 158 miles apart. They met 94 times between 1908 and 1975. ...
