Former Duke player and assistant coach leads Wildcats to NCAA

Chris Collins knew long before he took the Northwestern job that a good team can transform antiquated Welsh-Ryan Arena from a barn to a raucous place. He was a Chicago kid who experienced that atmosphere as a high school senior.

Maybe that’s one reason he returned home four years ago to take over a program that had never qualified for an NCAA Tournament. Maybe it’s why he choked up answering a postgame question about Northwestern’s dramatic last-second win over Michigan on Wednesday night that bracketologists agree clinched an NCAA berth. ...
